New Delhi, Feb 6 (NationPress) The 11th Padmashree Shyam Lal Memorial Invitational Hockey Tournament is set to take place in New Delhi from February 10 to 17. The leading teams from Delhi University will compete in both the men’s and women’s categories.
Professor Rabi Narayan Kar, Principal of Shyam Lal College, announced that the tournament will be inaugurated on February 10 at 10 am by chief guests Professor Balaram Pani, Dean of Colleges at the University of Delhi, alongside former Olympic hockey medalist and member of the 1975 World Cup winning Indian team, Ashok Dhyanchand. Savita Gupta, chairperson of Shyam Lal College, will also attend the event.
The Sports committee convenor, VS Jaggi, shared that there will be ten teams competing in the men's category and six teams in the women's category, playing in both league and knockout formats. The finals will feature the top two teams, and a player of the match will be recognized in each game.
Last year’s champions were Shyam Lal College in the men’s category and the Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Science for the women’s category.
The principal emphasized, "These tournaments are crucial for enhancing sports at the college level and for promoting fitness awareness among students as part of the Fit India campaign."
