Jaipur, Dec 5 (NationPress) Veer Ahlawat, starting the day in fourth place and trailing by five strokes, delivered an impressive performance by matching his tournament's best score of eight-under 62 during the final round, securing a remarkable come-from-behind victory at the Victorious Choice presents Jaipur Open 2025, powered by Shubhashish Homes. This Rs 1 crore event unfolded at the Rambagh Golf Club in Jaipur.

Based in Gurugram, Veer (67-62-70-62), who had previously shot a 62 in the second round, accumulated a total of 19-under 261 for the week, marking his fifth title and earning a winner’s purse of INR 15 lakh. This victory propelled him from 38th to 18th place in the PGTI Order of Merit.

Veer’s remarkable, bogey-free round on Friday also set a new record for the lowest winning total at the Rambagh Golf Club, previously held by Sanjay Kumar, who posted a 16-under 264 at a PGTI event in 2011.

Yuvraj Sandhu (65-63-66-68), who led by three strokes after round three, finished as the runner-up with a final score of 18-under 262 after carding a 68 on the final day, which included five birdies and three bogeys. He earned INR 10 lakh, extending his lead in the PGTI Order of Merit to over Rs 33 lakh and bringing his season's earnings to INR 1,31,67,100.

Shaurya Bhattacharya secured third place with a score of 15-under 265.

Veer, the 2024 PGTI Order of Merit champion, returned to the PGTI just weeks ago after competing in the highly competitive DP World Tour. His success on the DP World Tour, where he earned his spot by topping the PGTI Ranking last year, made a significant impact as he finished third in the last two PGTI events held in Pune and Digboi.

On Friday, Veer captured attention with his second score of 62 this week. Although he started slowly, making his first two birdies on the sixth and eighth holes, he surged ahead with six birdies on the back nine, highlighted by a crucial 14-foot conversion on the 17th hole, where he faced challenges.

“I discovered something new in my swing earlier this week that significantly improved my driving. My driving was the strongest part of my game throughout the week. I also got close to the hole for most of the final round. Although the putts didn’t fall on the front nine, I holed almost every putt on the back nine. My pivotal moment was on the 17th, where I had a poor chip shot but managed to sink a long putt for a birdie,” shared Veer, who is affiliated with the DLF Golf & Country Club in Gurugram.

“The experience gained from playing on the DP World Tour has been invaluable, providing me with international exposure. This victory has boosted my self-confidence, ensuring I finish the season strong,” he added.

Yuvraj, a five-time winner this PGTI season, mixed five birdies with a bogey until the 16th hole, leading for most of the day. However, he missed short putts on the final two holes, resulting in consecutive bogeys that diminished his challenge.

Local professionals Prakhar Asawa (one-over 281) and Hemendra Choudhary (two-over 282) finished tied 45th and tied 47th, respectively.
