New Delhi, March 24 (NationPress) — The Technical Committee of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) convened on Tuesday and made a significant recommendation to appoint an Indian coach for the senior women’s national football team, succeeding Amelia Valverde. Additionally, the committee proposed that Renjith TA serve as the assistant coach for the senior men’s Indian football team.
The AIFF Technical Committee held an online meeting to deliberate on the direction of both the men’s and women’s national squads. They expressed gratitude toward Amelia Valverde, who previously guided the Indian women’s team during the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, while finalizing their suggestions.
IM Vijayan chaired the meeting, which included members such as Harjinder Singh, Shabbir Ali, Victor Amalraj, Climax Lawrence, and Santosh Singh. They recommended that the Federation consider Indian coaches as viable candidates to lead the senior women’s national team, especially after the team’s recent AFC Women’s Asian Cup campaign.
The committee conveyed their best wishes to Amelia Valverde for her future pursuits. “With upcoming matches for the women’s team in the April FIFA International Window and the SAFF Women’s Championship scheduled for June, now is an excellent opportunity for an Indian coach to step in. A final decision will be made shortly,” the AIFF stated in a report on their official website on Tuesday.
Furthermore, as Mahesh Gawali has been designated as the head coach for the India U20 national team to facilitate player transitions from junior to senior levels, Renjith TA will also be appointed as the assistant coach for the senior men’s Indian football team.
In addition, the committee recommended the establishment of a study group comprising a Technical Committee member, an AIFF coaching instructor, and a scout to evaluate the performance of the India U23 men’s national team during the U23 Tri-Nation tournament in Arunachal Pradesh. This group will assess player readiness for senior-level competition and identify areas needing improvement.
