Amorim Finds It 'Embarrassing' to See Manchester United Struggling

Manchester, Dec 31 (NationPress) After suffering a defeat to Newcastle, which left Manchester United merely seven points clear of the relegation zone in the Premier League standings, manager Ruben Amorim stated that it is somewhat embarrassing to experience so many losses while recognizing that it is quite evident that his team is in a relegation struggle.

Newcastle secured a 2-0 victory at Old Trafford, marking their fourth consecutive win, while Manchester United faced their third straight defeat on Monday night.

"It is very clear (that United is being pulled into a relegation fight), so we must combat this. This is an incredibly challenging time, one of the toughest periods in the history of Manchester United, and we must confront it with sincerity," Amorim communicated to Sky Sports.

On New Year's Eve, United finds themselves in 14th place in the Premier League, their lowest standing at the year's start since 1989, when they concluded that year in 15th place, ultimately finishing 13th.

"This is also my responsibility. The squad is not progressing. At this moment, it feels a bit disoriented, and it is indeed embarrassing to be the coach of Manchester United while witnessing so many defeats. I believe the supporters have grown weary of excuses at this club. This club requires a jolt," Amorim mentioned in his press conference.

"During times like these, especially in major clubs, it is quite difficult to reverse the situation, particularly when there is limited time to train on the fundamentals and manage tough times. Therefore, we must recognize our standing; as you observe the league, any team can defeat any other," he added.

The Red Devils experienced six losses across competitions in December, marking only the third month since April 1926 (6 losses) and September 1930 (7 losses) where they have lost six games. They also conceded 18 goals in December, their highest monthly total since March 1964 (also 18), according to Premier League statistics.

United's next challenge will be against Premier League leaders Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, followed by a clash with Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup on January 12.
