Manchester United's Manager Amorim: 'We Are a Huge Club, Not a Huge Team'

Manchester, December 7 (NationPress) Manchester United's manager Ruben Amorim has stated that his squad is 'not a huge team' but rather a 'huge club'.

Since the dismissal of Erik ten Hag on October 28, United has shown signs of improvement. However, their recent 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on Wednesday, along with other match outcomes, has only allowed them to climb one position to 13th in the Premier League standings since Ten Hag's exit.

Amorim, whose team is set to take on Nottingham Forest this Saturday, acknowledged Arsenal's dominance and labeled the loss as a reality check.

'It is very clear. We are a huge club, but we are not a huge team. We acknowledge this, so there is no issue in stating it,' he expressed.

Having taken over as United's manager on November 11, Amorim is adamant that the club should not diminish its aspirations. He pointed out that the club's illustrious history guarantees that expectations will always be elevated.

'We're not among the top teams in the league. We need to acknowledge and think about that clearly,' he added.

'However, in our history, our club is possibly the best in the league. So, we have a challenge. We must concentrate on the finer details, and then we will progress as a team.'

At the beginning of his tenure, Amorim highlighted the significance of diligent effort from his players.

In recent times, United's squad has faced scrutiny for a perceived lack of commitment during a turbulent phase characterized by frequent managerial changes.

At present, the challenge is the congested schedule. Amorim has managed 11 games in just 37 days since taking the helm, in contrast to seven matches for his previous club, Sporting, in the same timeframe. This demanding fixture schedule has impeded fitness progression, which Amorim believes is vital before the team can genuinely compete again.

'If we want to win the Premier League, we must run like crazy. Even with the best starting XI on the planet, without running, they will achieve nothing,' Amorim remarked.

He has emphasized to his players the importance of acknowledging Manchester United fans after losses more than after victories.

This issue came to light after striker Marcus Rashford departed the pitch ahead of his teammates following the defeat at the Emirates Stadium, attracting criticism.

Without naming Rashford directly, Amorim remarked that it is essential to recognize the supporters who stand by the team, especially during tough times.

'We must do this,' he stated. 'Especially in defeat. Everyone needs to do it. It has to happen.'
