New Delhi, March 25 (NationPress) Aryaman Vikram Birla is set to assume the role of chairman for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru following the acquisition of the reigning champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Women's Premier League. This acquisition was spearheaded by a consortium including the Aditya Birla Group and Times Internet Limited, which invested Rs 16,660 crore.

Bolt Ventures (Bolt) and Blackstone's perpetual private equity strategy (BXPE, Blackstone) are also part of this consortium that has collectively taken ownership of RCB, one of the eight founding franchises established before the inaugural IPL season in 2008.

Aryaman, the offspring of Aditya Birla Group's chairperson Kumar Mangalam Birla, is a former cricketer who represented Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket.

He began his cricket journey by enrolling for district trials in Madhya Pradesh in 2014. Before that, he had a three-month experience in England under the guidance of former Middlesex cricketer Paul Weekes, playing for West Hampstead Cricket Club and the London Schools Cricket Association.

Having spent four years in the junior circuit with Madhya Pradesh, he also captained the MP U23 team and made his debut in the Ranji Trophy in October 2017. The left-handed batsman participated in nine first-class matches for Madhya Pradesh, accumulating 414 runs, which included a century against Bengal at Eden Gardens. Additionally, he scored 36 runs in four List-A matches.

During the IPL 2018 mega auction, he was picked up by the inaugural champions, Rajasthan Royals, for Rs 30 lakh. Unfortunately, he did not feature in any matches for the franchise and was released prior to the 2020 season.

Aryaman faced multiple injury challenges and, in 2019, opted for an "indefinite sabbatical from cricket" due to "severe anxiety associated with the sport." He has since not returned to cricket and currently serves as the director of the Aditya Birla Group.

He holds an MBA with honors from Harvard Business School, a Master’s degree in Global Finance from Bayes Business School, and a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the University of Mumbai. He has assumed leadership positions across various sectors of the Aditya Birla Group, including fashion, paints, and real estate.

Aryaman is also a member of the Group's apex body, Aditya Birla Management Corporation, and sits on the boards of several key companies within the Group, such as Grasim Industries, Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail (ABFRL), and the digital-first fashion platform, TMRW.

He is the founder of Aditya Birla New Age Hospitality, which is the Group’s rapidly expanding hospitality platform, and Aditya Birla Ventures, its venture capital division focused on investing in high-growth startups across emerging sectors.
