Will the Asia Cup trophy handover issue be discussed in the ICC meeting on Friday?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Nov 5 (NationPress) The 2025 Asia Cup trophy handover matter may be discussed during the board meeting of the ongoing ICC quarterly meetings on Friday in Dubai, according to sources close to IANS on Wednesday.
“Friday marks the gathering of all board leaders at the ICC Board Meeting, and the unresolved trophy handover issue will be brought up by the BCCI. Currently, there has been no progress on this matter despite a formal communication sent to the ACC,” the sources added.
In a conversation with IANS on November 1, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia hinted at mentioning the concerns regarding the delays in the trophy handover at the ICC quarterly meetings, noting that a letter addressing this issue was dispatched to the ACC ten days prior.
The ongoing dispute over the 2025 Asia Cup trophy arose after India, under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, triumphed over Salman Agha’s Pakistan team by five wickets at the Dubai International Stadium, thus claiming their ninth Asia Cup title.
However, the post-match festivities took an unexpected twist when the Indian squad chose not to accept the trophy or the winner’s medals from Mohsin Naqvi, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman, who also holds the roles of Pakistan’s Interior Minister and Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
This refusal, associated with ongoing cross-border tensions, resulted in chaotic scenes and an unprecedented trophy-less victory celebration for India. Although the BCCI has formally requested a resolution, the issue remains unresolved.
Furthermore, IANS understands that discussions regarding the management of cricket in the USA will also be on the agenda during the board meeting. Earlier this year, the ICC suspended USA Cricket's membership due to governance issues, although they retain eligibility to compete in the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup, which will take place in India and Sri Lanka.
