New Delhi, Nov 1 (NationPress) Devajit Saikia, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has announced that the board intends to officially highlight their concerns regarding the delay in receiving the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup trophy at the forthcoming ICC quarterly meeting in Dubai, set to take place from November 4-7.
“I have clearly stated from BCCI's perspective that we will wait for another 2-3 days. If the trophy is not returned, we will raise the matter at the ICC meeting commencing on November 4. We are currently waiting for the next two days,” Saikia remarked.
“Indeed, we dispatched a letter to the ACC ten days ago. Should the trophy not arrive, we will escalate our concerns to the ICC, the supreme body in cricket,” Saikia informed IANS on Saturday.
This situation arises after India declined to accept the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Pakistan’s Interior Minister, immediately following the victory of the Suryakumar Yadav-led team against Salman Agha & Co. by five wickets at Dubai International Stadium on September 28.
The win in Dubai marked India’s ninth Asia Cup title. The refusal to accept the trophy from Naqvi, who is also the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), was due to prior cross-border tensions between the nations, leading to chaotic scenes. India celebrated their championship without a physical trophy or medals for the players.
Reports emerged last month indicating that Naqvi intended to present the trophy on November 10.
The ACC chairman has proposed to organize an event in Dubai this month for the Asia Cup handover to the Indian men's cricket team, following correspondence between the continental body and the BCCI.
While the BCCI has formally contacted the ACC to resolve the trophy and medal issue, the situation remains unresolved. Various reports suggest that Naqvi has since relocated the trophy from the ACC headquarters to an undisclosed location, further complicating the standoff.
