Dhaka, March 16 (NationPress) Mehidy Hasan Miraz is optimistic about the future of Bangladesh cricket, asserting that the team has sufficient experience to manage the transition after the recent departures of crucial senior players.

The 27-year-old all-rounder, who has played over 180 international matches for Bangladesh, is gearing up to embrace a larger leadership role within the squad. He has urged the more experienced players to rise to the occasion and fill the voids left by the retiring veterans such as Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, and Tamim Iqbal.

"Currently, there are six to seven players in the team who have been involved in international cricket for 7-10 years. They can no longer be classified as newcomers," Mehidy stated to reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Bangladesh's journey in the 2025 Champions Trophy concluded early, as the team could not advance past the group stage, suffering two losses and facing a washout in their three matches, ultimately finishing third in Group A.

With the quest for their first major ICC trophy ongoing, Mehidy stressed the need for proactive strategies, especially with the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup on the horizon.

"It’s a process. We need to make decisions now and remain dedicated to a long-term vision. With just over two years to go until the World Cup, we must commence team preparations without delay.

"Consistency in selection is crucial. Initiating preparations merely two or three months prior to the tournament would pose significant challenges," he added.

Mehidy advocates for a comprehensive, long-term strategy to ensure ongoing success and highlighted the importance of building on the groundwork established by their senior predecessors.

"Players like Mushfiqur bhai (Rahim) and others from the former generation have dedicated 7-8 years to the team, taking Bangladesh cricket to new heights. Now, we have also been around for a significant period. Our objective should be to elevate Bangladesh cricket further. The previous generation laid a robust foundation. Our responsibility now is to advance it," he remarked.
