Leeds, Jan 1 (NationPress) Danny Batth netted a dramatic equaliser in the dying moments of the match, ensuring a 1-1 draw for Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road and preventing Leeds United from achieving their 10th successive home victory in the Championship, which is the second tier of English football. Batth's timely strike in injury time salvaged a point for his side.
A late penalty kick conversion by Pascal Struijk had initially appeared to secure all three points for Leeds United in their quest to maintain their lead at the top of the Championship standings. Yet, Batth's late intervention denied both Leeds and Struijk the joy of victory as he found the net for the Rovers in the 90th minute.
The match remained goalless until the final 10 minutes when the intensity increased with Leeds aiming for a winning goal.
Leeds pressed forward in search of a winner during the extensive 10 minutes of injury time, but John Eustace's play-off-chasing team held strong to secure a well-earned point. Daniel Farke's squad had been impressive at Elland Road this season, winning all three of their previous festive fixtures, but they struggled to shine against Rovers.
In the first half, Leeds struggled to break through a resilient Blackburn defense, with the sole opportunity being Struijk's header, comfortably saved by Blackburn goalkeeper Aynsley Pears. The home team ramped up their efforts just before halftime, yet Blackburn, who had previously defeated Leeds 1-0 at Elland Road last season, remained resolute.
Following the interval, the match continued in a similar manner, with both teams exchanging chances, yet neither could convert.
