Munich, April 18 (NationPress) With the UEFA Champions League 2025 final set to take place at the Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich's ambition of clinching their seventh European title on home soil was dashed following a 3-4 aggregate defeat to Inter Milan.
After seeing their 11-year streak of Bundesliga victories interrupted by Bayer Leverkusen in the 2023-24 season, head coach Vincent Kompany reflected on the team's exit and asserted that their complete attention is now on the upcoming match against Heidenheim this Saturday.
"We are currently taking a very pragmatic approach. Our goal is to utilize every opportunity to improve for the next match. The past cannot be altered. In future games, we can demonstrate our capabilities and intentions. I am intrinsically motivated and eager. It doesn’t take much for me to regain full energy the next day," Kompany stated during the pre-match conference.
The Bavarians currently hold a six-point advantage over Leverkusen, and with five matches left, the team is well-positioned to claim the Bundesliga title once again. Bayern's sporting director, Christoph Freund, mentioned that the club had a 'great dream' for their UCL campaign but believes they are still on the right track.
"This was our significant dream, but it has unfortunately failed. That is part of football. The conditions were challenging. We evaluated our effectiveness and identified minor details that made the difference. I do not believe the team will dwell on this setback.
"There are two elements: the performance – which has been fairly decent in recent weeks – and the outcomes. We fell short in that regard. However, the team is progressing well. Our major objective in the upcoming weeks is to reclaim the Bundesliga title," Freund concluded.
