Freiburg, May 4 (NationPress) Bayern Munich has been crowned the 2024/25 Bundesliga champions, successfully reclaiming the title from Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen with two matches remaining in the season.

Following a thrilling 3-3 draw against RB Leipzig last Saturday, Bayern secured their championship when second-placed Leverkusen couldn't defeat Freiburg in a crucial match. Despite trailing 2-0 shortly after the second half began, Leverkusen managed to equalize with two late goals, resulting in a draw.

This outcome guarantees Bayern an unassailable lead at the top of the league standings with only two games left to play. This title marks their record-extending 33rd championship in the Bundesliga era.

After experiencing their first trophyless season since 2011 last year, where they finished third behind first-time champions Leverkusen and surprise runners-up VfB Stuttgart, Bayern has quickly reestablished their dominance under new head coach Vincent Kompany in the 2024/25 season. The Bavarians have held the first position since Matchday 3, achieving 23 victories out of 32 matches, with only two losses, and scoring a league-high 93 goals.

Additionally, this championship represents a debut season title for Kompany and the first major silverware for England captain Harry Kane.

For Thomas Müller, this is his record-extending 13th and likely final top-flight title as a player. The Bayern legend, who recently marked his 500th Bundesliga appearance, is set to conclude his 25-year association with his boyhood club following this summer's FIFA Club World Cup.

Bayern's next match will be against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Matchday 33, serving as their first game as newly crowned champions and their last home fixture of the 2024/25 season. They will wrap up their league campaign at Hoffenheim on May 17, where they will officially receive the title.
