New Delhi, Nov 9 (NationPress) The president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Mithun Manhas, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Rohan Jaitley, the president of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), as the Arun Jaitley Stadium celebrated a remarkable achievement of hosting over 300 first-class matches. “I want to commend Rohan Jaitley and his entire team. Today, we acknowledge the 302nd match played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, marking a significant milestone. This accomplishment is indeed impressive, particularly due to the dedication he has shown since assuming office. I also appreciate his kind invitation to this special event,” Manhas stated during an interview with IANS.
Recently, Jaitley was appointed the chair of the BCCI’s Infrastructure Committee following the conclusion of the board's 94th Annual General Meeting in September, coinciding with Manhas's elevation to the president role, succeeding Roger Binny.
The Infrastructure Committee is now led by Jaitley, alongside members including Manhas, Shukla, Saikia, Prabhtej Bhatia, A. Raghuram Bhat, Anirudh Chaudhury, and Sana Sathish Babu. The former BCCI president, Binny, previously occupied this position.
Jaitley is tasked with the oversight of the nation’s cricket facilities, with a focus on constructing new venues and enhancing existing ones. In December of last year, Jaitley was re-elected as DDCA president, receiving 1,577 votes compared to 777 for former India cricketer Kirti Azad.
Recently, Jaitley and Manhas had a productive meeting with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to discuss a strategic plan for developing world-class infrastructure and fostering young talent in Jammu and Kashmir. This initiative aims to bolster cricketing facilities in the region.
The BCCI delegation promised its full support for enhancing the local cricketing environment, which includes establishing modern training centers, improving pitch quality, and upgrading facilities at key venues in Jammu and Srinagar.
Chief Minister Abdullah welcomed this initiative, emphasizing that sports development is crucial for youth engagement and social unity. He expressed gratitude for the BCCI’s commitment to empowering local players and providing opportunities for aspiring cricketers from the Union Territory.
