As per sources from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the discussion centered on upgrading existing cricket facilities, constructing new stadiums, and establishing a comprehensive framework for supporting emerging players throughout J&K.
“The meeting focused on the infrastructural enhancement of cricket in Jammu and Kashmir. Chairman of the BCCI Infrastructure Committee, Rohan Jaitley, and president Mithun Manhas held discussions with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah,” CMO sources told IANS.
The BCCI delegation committed to fully supporting the improvement of the region’s cricket ecosystem — including the creation of modern training centers, superior pitches, and upgraded amenities at significant venues like Jammu and Srinagar.
Chief Minister Abdullah expressed his support for the initiative and emphasized that sports development is crucial for engaging youth and fostering social unity. He lauded the BCCI’s dedication to empowering local players and broadening opportunities for aspiring cricketers from the Union Territory.

Last month, Jaitley was appointed as the head of the BCCI infrastructure committee, while Manhas was elected as the new BCCI president. Rajeev Shukla and Devajit Saikia were re-elected as vice-president and secretary, respectively, during the 94th Annual General Meeting.
The 45-year-old former cricketer, Manhas, played domestic cricket for Delhi before relocating to Jammu and Kashmir, where he also took on coaching responsibilities.
