New Delhi, May 8 (NationPress) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced that the showdown between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, set for May 11, will now take place in Ahmedabad instead of Dharamshala.
The iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will be the new venue for this exciting clash on Sunday afternoon, moving from the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, which traditionally serves as the home ground for PBKS.
According to the BCCI, the change of venue was required due to various logistical challenges. The match is still set to kick off at 3:30 PM IST as originally planned.
This decision to relocate the game to Ahmedabad, home of the Gujarat Titans (GT), comes after Dharamshala's airports were closed until May 10, following the launch of 'Operation Sindoor' by the Indian armed forces on May 7, which targeted multiple terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The suspension of civilian air travel to and from Dharamshala posed significant challenges for the BCCI in organizing the match between PBKS and MI.
Anil Patel, Secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA), confirmed to IANS that they had agreed to BCCI's request to host the match. He stated, “Yes, we are set to host the Punjab-Mumbai IPL game. The BCCI reached out to us last minute, and we are ready to accommodate it in Ahmedabad. We’ve also been informed that the Mumbai team will arrive in Ahmedabad this evening.”
“However, we are still waiting for details on how the Punjab team will be arriving in Ahmedabad, although there’s a chance they might come via a chartered flight tomorrow morning,” he added.
This season, PBKS had designated Dharamshala as their home base for three matches: they triumphed over the Lucknow Super Giants by 37 runs and were set to face the Delhi Capitals on Thursday evening before concluding their home games in Ahmedabad.
Currently, PBKS is ranked third in the points table with 15 points from 11 matches, while MI holds the fourth spot with 14 points from 12 games. Both teams are in a fierce race for a place in the IPL 2025 playoffs.
