New Delhi, May 8 (NationPress) The much-anticipated IPL 2025 match featuring Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians, originally set for May 11 in the afternoon at Dharamshala, has officially been relocated to Ahmedabad. This change was confirmed by Anil Patel, Secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA), on Thursday.
"Indeed, we are set to host the Punjab-Mumbai IPL match. The BCCI made a last-minute request, which we have gladly accepted as we are capable of accommodating the event in Ahmedabad. We’ve also been informed that the Mumbai team will arrive in Ahmedabad this evening," Patel stated.
He added, "However, we are still awaiting details on how the Punjab team will reach Ahmedabad, though they might arrive via a chartered flight tomorrow morning."
This decision was necessitated due to the closure of airports in Dharamshala until May 10, following the initiation of 'Operation Sindoor' by the Indian armed forces on May 7, targeting nine terrorist locations across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
With civilian air travel suspended to and from Dharamsala, the BCCI faced significant logistical hurdles in organizing the May 11 match between PBKS and MI. Consequently, the match has been moved to Ahmedabad, where the Narendra Modi Stadium, the home ground of the Gujarat Titans (GT), will host this crucial encounter.
Reports suggest that the initial discussions considered Mumbai as the venue; however, Ahmedabad was ultimately selected to ensure neither team gains a home advantage, thus maintaining fairness in the ongoing tournament.
PBKS has designated Dharamshala as its home base for three matches this season, winning one against the Lucknow Super Giants by 37 runs, and will face the Delhi Capitals this evening before concluding their home games in Ahmedabad.
Currently, PBKS holds third place in the points table with 15 points from 11 matches, while MI is in fourth place with 14 points from 12 matches. Both teams are vying for a spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs.
