New Delhi, May 9 (NationPress) In light of the intensifying military tensions between India and Pakistan, the BCCI has made the decision to suspend the current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 indefinitely, following an emergency meeting held on Friday, as reported by sources to IANS.
The IPL match on Thursday between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was abandoned after only 10.1 overs were played at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. This decision came after air and drone strikes from Pakistan caused blackouts in areas such as Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur, all of which are situated near Dharamshala, leading to uncertainty regarding the tournament's future.
A source from the BCCI stated, "IPL will be suspended, and we will provide further information shortly. The meeting has concluded. After discussions with relevant authorities, this decision was reached. More details will be communicated by the BCCI soon," IANS reported.
The BCCI emphasized its commitment to the nation during this critical period, announcing the immediate suspension of IPL 2025. The possibility of resuming the tournament later in the year remains uncertain. A source indicated, "For now, there’s no timeline for a potential resumption of IPL 2025."
Following the cancellation of the match in Dharamshala, various Australian players participating in the league reportedly voiced concerns regarding their safety.
A special train has been arranged to safely evacuate players and support staff from both Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, including match officials, commentators, broadcast crew, and other essential personnel associated with IPL 2025.
This escalation follows India’s precision strikes against nine significant terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), a response to a horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam that resulted in 26 fatalities. In retaliation, Pakistan attempted to target several military installations in Northern and Western India on May 7-8.
On Thursday morning, India targeted air defense radars and systems at multiple locations within Pakistan, successfully neutralizing those in Lahore.
In response, Pakistan launched aerial attacks on Jammu and several military stations near the western border, all of which were effectively countered by India’s air defense systems.
