New Delhi, May 11 (NationPress) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has instructed all ten IPL franchises to convene by Tuesday, as the tournament's reboot to finalize the remaining matches draws near.
The IPL 2025 was paused by the BCCI for one week on Friday due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly following the suspension of the Punjab Kings-Delhi Capitals match in Dharamshala due to air strikes and power outages in nearby regions such as Jammu and Pathankot.
At the moment of suspension, IPL 2025 had already completed 58 matches, with 12 league stage games and playoffs still to be played. Following the announcement of the suspension, players from all franchises, along with most support staff members, returned to their homes and countries.
“Indeed, we have received notice to gather our players and support staff by Tuesday. The specific location for the assembly is yet to be confirmed. However, we have been informed by the BCCI to initiate the process of gathering the team immediately and ensure all are present by Tuesday. We will also commence efforts to bring back overseas players to India as soon as possible,” stated a senior franchise official, speaking under the condition of anonymity to IANS on Sunday.
IANS reports that Ricky Ponting and Brad Haddin, the head coach and assistant coach of Punjab Kings (PBKS), remain in India and did not return to Australia, unlike other coaching staff such as Justin Langer (head coach, Lucknow Super Giants) and Mike Hussey (batting coach, Chennai Super Kings).
This agency previously reported that the BCCI intends to conclude all remaining IPL games before May 25, as the India 'A' squad is scheduled to depart for a three-match tour of England. According to the original IPL schedule, May 25 is set for the final, which will take place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
It is anticipated that the final decision regarding the dates and venues for the adjusted schedule will be made by the IPL governing council after receiving guidance from the government, particularly after the ceasefire was breached on Saturday night. Following the IPL, the India Test team is slated to travel to England for a five-match Test series beginning on June 20 in Headingley.
