New Delhi, May 9 (NationPress) The broadcasters of IPL 2025, JioStar, expressed their support for the BCCI's choice to pause the tournament for a week, emphasizing their commitment to put national interest above all else. This decision follows escalating tensions at the India-Pakistan border.
"At JioStar, we fully back the BCCI’s resolution to suspend TATA IPL 2025 and are unwavering in our dedication to prioritize national interest above all considerations. In these trying times, we must stand united with our nation, support the government, our armed forces, and extend our solidarity to the affected civilians," they stated.
“We will collaborate with the BCCI to resume the tournament at a suitable time. JioStar will engage with all stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition, allowing everyone involved in the tournament broadcast to return home safely,” they added in a statement on Friday.
The suspension of the tournament for one week comes in response to rising cross-border tensions that intensified on Thursday night, resulting in blackouts in Jammu, Udhampur, and Pathankot due to air strikes and drones from Pakistan.
This situation led to the cancellation of the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, approximately 80 kilometers from Pathankot, after just 10.1 overs of the first innings were completed.
With the airport in Dharamshala and other northern Indian cities closed, the players and support staff from both PBKS and DC, alongside match officials, commentators, broadcast crew, and other key personnel associated with IPL, were evacuated from Dharamshala via bus to Jalandhar on Friday morning, where a special train arranged by the tournament is now transporting them to New Delhi.
Currently, IPL 2025 has completed 58 matches, with 12 remaining in the league stage, followed by the playoffs. The BCCI has informed all ten franchises of the tournament's one-week suspension, and they will begin planning for the safe departure of all players, support staff, and crew members once the advisory from the MEA is issued on Friday evening.
