Mumbai, May 12 (NationPress) Following discussions with governmental bodies, security organizations, and other involved parties, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has officially announced the revival of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, set to recommence on May 17. All matches will be held across six venues.
The IPL 2025 will kick off again at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on May 17, featuring a clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders. This season was temporarily halted due to escalating conflicts along the border between India and Pakistan, where missile and drone assaults initiated by Pakistan were successfully repelled by Indian defense forces.
Matches will not take place in Mohali or Dharamsala. The match originally scheduled between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians, which had been relocated to Ahmedabad, will now occur at the SMS Stadium in Jaipur on May 26.
The IPL final is now slated for June 3, with playoff matches commencing from May 29. Details regarding the playoff venues will be provided later.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is delighted to announce the continuation of the TATA IPL 2025. After thorough discussions with government and security agencies as well as key stakeholders, the Board has decided to move forward with the remaining matches of the season,” the BCCI stated in a release on Monday.
“A total of 17 matches will take place at six venues, commencing on May 17, 2025, and culminating with the final on June 3, 2025. The updated schedule includes two double-headers set for two Sundays,” the BCCI confirmed in its announcement.
As per the statement, playoffs will initiate with Qualifier 1 on May 29, followed by the Eliminator on May 30. The Qualifier 2 match is scheduled for June 1, with the final on June 3.
Specific details regarding playoff venues will be revealed at a future date.
“The BCCI takes this moment to honor the valor and persistence of India’s armed forces, whose contributions have facilitated the safe return of cricket. The Board reaffirms its dedication to national interests while ensuring the successful conclusion of the league,” stated BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia in the release.
