IPL 2025 Set to Kick Off on March 21 in Kolkata: Report

New Delhi, Jan 12 (NationPress) The IPL 2025 is slated to commence on March 21, with Eden Gardens hosting both the tournament opener and the concluding match on May 25.

According to a report from ESPNcricinfo, the WPL 2025 will be held from February 7 to March 2. In a groundbreaking decision prior to the mega auction in November, the IPL communicated the timelines for the upcoming three seasons (2025-27) to the franchises. For 2025, the designated timeframe is from March 15 to May 25. However, to create a buffer for the Champions Trophy final, which is set for March 9, the IPL opted for a nearly two-week gap, establishing the start date at March 21. The complete IPL schedule is anticipated to be unveiled later this month.

As is customary, the venue of the defending champions will host both the opening and closing matches, with this year's venue being Eden Gardens, the home ground for the Kolkata Knight Riders, who triumphed in IPL 2024.

The 2025 season will comprise 74 matches, maintaining consistency with the previous three seasons. This number, however, is ten less than the 84 matches initially outlined in the IPL's 2022 media rights tender for the 2023-27 cycle. The tender specified different match counts for each season: 74 games for 2023 and 2024, 84 games for 2025 and 2026, and up to 94 games for 2027.

Regarding the 2025 WPL, the BCCI has opted to introduce two new venues, in addition to Mumbai and Bengaluru. This year, the league will also take place in Baroda and Lucknow. The exact number of matches at each location remains to be confirmed, as the WPL schedule is still pending announcement.
