The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the contracts of assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and fielding coach T. Dilip with the Indian men's cricket team have concluded, with replacements expected to be named within days, board secretary Devajit Saikia said on Tuesday, 28 July. The announcement puts to rest weeks of speculation over the duo's future with the national setup.

What the BCCI Secretary Said

'T Dilip's contract was on extension for the last one year. His contract was over last year, but we gave him an extension of one additional year. As far as Ryan ten Doeschate is concerned, it was over on June 10. So, once their contract periods were over, they continued till the India-England series was over on July 19. That is over now, and their contracts have been given no further extension,' Saikia said.

Saikia was categorical that neither coach resigned. 'A lot of theories and speculations were going on that there was some resignation, etc — that is not the case. Once their contract periods were over, we were not extending them. We are now going to recruit new people and are in the process of it. In a day or two, we will announce the replacement — I mean the persons who will take their positions,' he added.

Ten Doeschate's Tenure and Exit

Former Netherlands batting stalwart Ryan ten Doeschate joined the Indian support staff after Gautam Gambhir took over as head coach following India's victorious 2024 T20 World Cup campaign, succeeding Rahul Dravid. Regarded as one of Gambhir's trusted lieutenants, the former all-rounder contributed across batting and fielding units. According to reports, a chief reason behind his contract not being extended was the extended travel periods that kept him away from his young family based in London. Ten Doeschate reportedly informed the BCCI of his decision while the team was still in the United Kingdom, shortly after India suffered defeats in both the T20I and ODI series against England.

During his stint, India lifted the 2025 Asia Cup and successfully defended the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2026 in white-ball cricket. The Test side, however, endured a challenging phase — India relinquished the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia and suffered back-to-back home series defeats, including a 3-0 loss to New Zealand and a 2-0 defeat against South Africa.

T. Dilip's Record and Departure

Fielding coach T. Dilip had been part of the Indian coaching setup since 2021, accumulating a decorated record that included the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup, the 2025 Champions Trophy, and the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup. His contract had already lapsed once before it was extended by one additional year, making Tuesday's separation a natural conclusion rather than an abrupt exit.

Who Could Replace Them

According to reports, Shubhadeep Ghosh is under consideration for the fielding coach role ahead of the upcoming Test series in Sri Lanka, though the appointment is understood to be primarily on an interim basis. Dishant Yagnik is also reportedly in the mix as a candidate. No official announcement on the assistant coach vacancy has been made yet, with the BCCI indicating a formal decision is imminent.
