New Delhi, Oct 14 (NationPress) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) faced a significant mishap on the inaugural day of the Ranji Trophy 2025/26 season, due to a mix-up involving Mumbai cricketers and brothers Sarfaraz Khan and Musheer Khan.
This confusion arose during Mumbai's match against Jammu and Kashmir at the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar. Initially, the official scorecard on the BCCI website mistakenly identified Sarfaraz Khan as the opening batter, noting he was dismissed for a duck by fast bowler Auqib Nabi.
This led to bewilderment among fans, as Sarfaraz is typically known as a middle-order batter rather than an opener. It was later clarified that it was indeed Musheer Khan, Sarfaraz’s younger brother, who had taken the opening role and was out on the third ball of the match.
The BCCI later rectified the scorecard error; however, the delay caused considerable confusion. Sarfaraz eventually batted in his usual spot at No. 5.
After Musheer was dismissed for a three-ball duck, Ayush Mhatre (28) and Ajinkya Rahane (27) formed a 61-run partnership for the second wicket before Mhatre departed. Rahane soon followed him back to the dressing room. Sarfaraz was run out after scoring 42 runs off 48 balls, including six fours and one six.
Siddhesh Lad and Shams Mulani are currently at the crease with scores of 86 and 23, respectively, as Mumbai reached a total of 302/5.
