Bengaluru, Dec 5 (NationPress) The All-India Tennis Association (AITA) has officially declared that Bengaluru will serve as the venue for the upcoming Davis Cup World Group stage tie between India and the Netherlands, marking the return of this grand event to India after a hiatus.

The Davis Cup clash is scheduled to take place at the SM Krishna Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA) Stadium in Bengaluru on February 7 and 8, 2026.

Bengaluru boasts a rich history of hosting top-tier tennis events and is known for its devoted fan base that has continuously championed the sport. This esteemed international match further cements Bengaluru’s status as one of India's foremost tennis hubs.

This announcement follows KSLTA’s successful hosting of the Billie Jean King Cup Play-offs, which marked the first time this event was held in India. The tournament demonstrated the city's capability to host global competitions with excellent infrastructure, meticulous planning, and enthusiastic audience engagement.

Bengaluru has a strong legacy in the Davis Cup, having welcomed numerous ties throughout the years. The city has previously hosted significant matches against Australia in 1970, Sweden in 1985, Indonesia in 2013, Serbia in 2014, and Uzbekistan in 2017. These historic encounters underscore Bengaluru's enduring connection with prestigious international tennis and its proficiency in organizing elite competitions.

Currently, India is positioned at No. 33 in the Davis Cup rankings and has reached the finals on three occasions (1966, 1974, and 1987). The team secured its place in the 2026 qualifiers with a commendable 3-1 victory over Switzerland in September 2025, marking its first win against a European team since 1993. Under the leadership of Sumit Nagal and Dhakshineswar Suresh, this performance represents India's best outcome since the format changed in 2019.

In this forthcoming tie, India will go up against a formidable opponent - the Netherlands, currently ranked No. 4 in the Davis Cup standings and the runners-up at the 2024 Davis Cup. Having reached the finals last year, the Netherlands gained direct access to the second round of the 2026 qualifiers, bypassing the initial phase in accordance with tournament rules.

The KSLTA expressed its pride in bringing another significant global tennis event to the city, reaffirming its commitment to fostering and promoting tennis at all levels.
