BGT: SCG Achieves Unprecedented Attendance of 47,566 on First Day of 5th Test

Sydney, Jan 3 (NationPress) The Sydney Cricket Ground marked a historic achievement on Friday by recording the largest opening day attendance for a Test match between India and Australia, with an astonishing 47,566 spectators occupying the stands.
The attendance at the SCG during the tea break reached 47,566, making it the highest turnout for cricket at this venue since January 1976.
"The records keep on falling. Over 45,000 through the gates of the Sydney Cricket Ground on Day 1," Cricket Australia shared on X.
This impressive attendance follows a previous record set earlier in the series when the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) hosted the largest crowd ever for a Test match during the third Test.
By lunch on day one, 45,465 fans had already entered the SCG, exceeding the former record of 44,901, which was established during the 2003/04 India-Australia series.
Cricket Australia emphasized the significance of this turnout, underscoring that it represents the largest audience for a Test at the SCG in nearly 50 years, dating back to 1976.
