Leeds, Aug 31 (NationPress) England’s white-ball captain Harry Brook has encouraged Zak Crawley and Jordan Cox to leverage their impressive performances in The Hundred and aspire to secure positions in the national white-ball teams.
Despite the Northern Superchargers having their campaign conclude on Saturday night when their Eliminator against the Trent Rockets was called off, Crawley and Cox wrapped up with 280 and 327 runs respectively. Crawley has participated in 59 Tests and eight ODIs, but has yet to debut in T20Is. Meanwhile, Cox has played three ODIs and two T20Is to date.
“Everyone is in contention: whoever performs well. He (Crawley) clearly possesses the qualities we discuss: he can apply pressure on bowlers with both good and bad deliveries; he can adeptly manipulate the field; he excels against fast bowling and spin. He has all the skills necessary to represent England in white-ball cricket,” Brook stated as reported by ESPNCricinfo.
“The same applies to everyone. There has been considerable talk about Jordan Cox: he is undeniably an exceptional talent, alongside Creeps. Consistency is key; you must keep performing well over an extended period. Competition for spots is a positive thing,” Brook added.
Brook, who assumed the role of England’s limited-overs captain from Jos Buttler in April, will next appear when England hosts South Africa in a three-match ODI series starting at Headingley on Tuesday. “I have repeatedly stated that England cricket is my top priority. Throughout this competition, I have endeavored to remain as fresh as possible for England,” he said.
“It’s unfortunate we didn’t make it through - but that’s the nature of cricket. We’ve had an incredible season. This competition has been immensely enjoyable, playing alongside some fantastic players and Fred (Andrew Flintoff), an absolute legend. I’ve had a great time,” he concluded.
