New Delhi, Feb 27 (NationPress) India's leading fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who was sidelined from the current Champions Trophy due to a lower back injury, has resumed bowling at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The speedster shared a video of his practice session in the nets on Instagram, captioning it "Progress every day", which has generated excitement among fans regarding his comeback to international cricket.
Bumrah's last appearance for India was in the five-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, during which he captained the team in the first and last Tests in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma. He emerged as the top wicket-taker of the series, claiming 32 wickets at an impressive average of 13.06, with his best performance being 6-76 in the third Test in Brisbane. Unfortunately, he had to withdraw midway through the Sydney Test, which was the concluding match of the series.
He also missed the white-ball home series against England before being excluded from the Champions Trophy squad.
In Bumrah's absence, Mohammed Shami, Harshit Rana, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya have performed admirably for India in the pace department during the Champions Trophy. Bumrah was present in Dubai for India's match against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, where he received his ICC Awards and Team of the Year caps for his outstanding performances in 2024.
He was honored with the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year award and also received the distinguished Sir Garfield Sobers Award for an exceptional 2024, during which he took 71 wickets in Test matches at an average of 14.92.
Bumrah was named Player of the Tournament in the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup held in the USA and the West Indies, capturing 15 wickets at an astonishing average of 8.26 and an economy rate of just 4.17.
Additionally, he secured the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year award in a remarkable year where he became the fastest Indian pacer to reach 200 Test wickets. He was also featured in both the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year and ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Year.
Bumrah is optimistic about being fit for the IPL 2025 with the Mumbai Indians, who are set to face the Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on March 23.
