Mumbai, April 6 (NationPress) Fast-bowling ace Jasprit Bumrah is now eligible for selection in the Mumbai Indians' matchup against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, set to take place at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, as confirmed by head coach Mahela Jayawardene.

"He is available, has been training today, and should be ready for the RCB encounter. He arrived last night, completed his sessions with the NCA (now known as CoE), and has been handed over to our physiotherapists. He bowled today during the practice session, so everything is looking good," stated Jayawardene during a pre-match press conference on Sunday.

Bumrah has been sidelined since incurring a back injury on the second day of the fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The rehabilitation at the CoE meant that Bumrah was unable to participate in India’s triumphant 2025 Champions Trophy run.

The update on Bumrah’s availability serves as a significant boost for MI, who have managed to win only one game in IPL 2025 thus far. In their previous encounter at Wankhede Stadium, Bumrah recorded a five-wicket haul, leading MI to a seven-wicket victory over RCB.

Since his debut in the IPL back in 2013, Bumrah has been a cornerstone of MI’s bowling attack, accumulating 165 wickets across 133 matches for the franchise. The only edition he missed was in 2023 when he was recovering from back surgery.

Jayawardene also provided an update regarding the condition of veteran batsman Rohit Sharma, who sat out during the side's narrow 12-run loss to the Lucknow Super Giants after sustaining a knee injury during practice.

"Ro appears to be in good shape. He will bat today as well. It was merely an unfortunate hit on his leg while batting, so he is not entirely comfortable. We traveled yesterday, and he will have a practice session today before we reassess his condition," he added.
