Is Bumrah Ready to Lead India to Victory?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Canberra, Oct 28 (NationPress) Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav emphasized the significance of having Jasprit Bumrah in the team, noting the pacer's willingness to accept responsibilities whenever called upon.
Bumrah, who was rested during the recent ODI series, has been included in the T20I squad as the team aims to keep him energized and fit for the upcoming T20 World Cup in India next year. However, it remains uncertain whether the pace spearhead will participate in all five T20Is or be rested in some matches to manage his workload.
Suryakumar acknowledged the difficulty of taking wickets during the powerplay and commended Bumrah for stepping up in the first six overs to secure breakthroughs for the team.
"Indeed, it is a continual challenge. We observed how Australia performed in the ODI series and during the T20 World Cup. The powerplay is always crucial. During the Asia Cup, he (Bumrah) took on the responsibility of bowling at least two overs in the powerplay, demonstrating his readiness to take charge. It will certainly be a formidable challenge against the Australian team in the powerplay," Suryakumar remarked at the pre-match press conference.
"His performance over the years has kept him at the pinnacle of cricket, and he understands how to prepare for a successful series. Given his extensive experience in this country, he has garnered respect among his peers, and his willingness to assist others is commendable. Having him in the squad as we face Australia will be advantageous," he added.
Australia is set to host India in the T20I series opener at the Manuka Oval this Wednesday.
