Barcelona, Jan 28 (ANS) Defender Andreas Christensen of FC Barcelona will be sidelined for approximately three weeks due to an injury sustained to his right calf during a training session on Monday, as confirmed by the La Liga club on Tuesday. Last week, he was given medical clearance to resume play after being out for more than five months because of ongoing Achilles problems that have affected him for nearly two years.
The Danish international has participated in only one match this season, which was the opening league encounter against Valencia at Mestalla. Following that match, he was diagnosed with an Achilles issue that resulted in his extended absence.
Throughout his time at Barcelona, Christensen has made a total of 75 appearances, netting four goals.
In their first league match of 2025 at Estadi Lluis Companys on Monday, Barcelona scored seven times against Valencia, breaking a frustrating streak of three consecutive home defeats.
In Champions League action, Barcelona has advanced to the last 16 after a dramatic 4-5 victory over Benfica, coming back from a 4-2 deficit with just 13 minutes remaining on Wednesday.
Under the guidance of Hansi Flick, the team secured the necessary three points to progress to the next round and bypass the playoffs. They will face Atalanta in their final group stage match on Thursday (IST).
