Panaji, April 27 (NationPress) The I-League 2024-25 presentation ceremony for Churchill Brothers took place in Goa on Sunday, despite the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) issuing an order preventing the All India Football Federation (AIFF) from announcing the league champion or holding a medal ceremony until the ongoing arbitration is resolved.
The AIFF stated that it only became aware of the CAS ruling after the event, attributing the lack of notification to a holiday at the AIFF Secretariat.
At the ceremony, the champions’ trophy and winners’ medals were officially awarded to Churchill Brothers FC Goa, following a directive from the Appeals Committee and a submission made by the AIFF to the Delhi High Court on April 23.
The AIFF clarified, “In light of the Court of Arbitration for Sport order, the Federation was only informed of the ruling after the ceremony had concluded due to the holiday in our Secretariat.”
Churchill Brothers were declared champions of the I-League 2024-25 after being recognized as provisional winners by the AIFF Appeals Committee on April 19. Inter Kashi has since announced plans to appeal to CAS.
Inter Kashi finished with 39 points from their 22 matches, just one point behind provisional leaders Churchill Brothers FC Goa, who ended their season with a 1-1 draw against Real Kashmir.
