New Delhi, March 21 (NationPress) Aakash Chopra, the former Indian cricket star, has raised significant concerns regarding the 2008 champions, Rajasthan Royals (RR), as they gear up for the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), set to kick off on March 28.

In a recent video on X, Chopra provided an analysis of the RR team, highlighting their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats as they approach IPL 2026.

Rajasthan has encountered a considerable setback prior to the season, with all-rounder Sam Curran likely sidelined for the entire tournament due to a groin injury, as reported by ESPNcricinfo. Curran had displayed impressive form during the recent ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Chopra expressed that Curran’s absence could severely impact Rajasthan’s performance, particularly in terms of lacking a solid No. 8 batter in the lineup.

“The challenge has intensified with Sam Curran out. Who will take the No. 8 spot? Will this issue resurface? They might have to consider playing Nandre Burger,” Chopra mentioned in his X video.

Nevertheless, the former right-handed batter commended the team's overall batting and bowling strengths, emphasizing that they possess viable options for every game phase, including powerful hitters capable of taking charge from the outset.

“The Rajasthan Royals boast explosive talent in their batting lineup, featuring players like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer, Daniel Ferreira, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jofra Archer,” he stated.

“In the pace bowling department, there are bowlers capable of performing well at various stages. Burger with the new ball, alongside Jofra Archer, Sandeep, and Tushar, as well as Maphaka. The spin department has also seen improvements, with Jadeja and Bishnoi looking particularly strong compared to last season,” he added.

Chopra also views this season as a critical opportunity for the new captain, Riyan Parag, to establish his leadership.

“This is a prime chance for him to make a name… Dhruv Jurel and Yashasvi Jaiswal could very well compete for the Orange Cap. Vaibhav Suryavanshi has the potential to excel. The team’s batting strategy will focus on maintaining a consistent aggressive approach, while the bowling strategy will prioritize early wickets and those in the middle overs,” Chopra concluded.

Rajasthan's opening match is set for March 30 against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
