London, July 9 (NationPress) Deep Dasgupta, the former wicketkeeper-batter for India, emphasizes that the remarkable consistency in both batting and bowling exhibited by the team led by Shubman Gill must be maintained as they prepare for the third Test against England at Lord's, commencing on Thursday.
As the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series stands tied at 1-1, all eyes are on the outcome between India and England at this historic venue in London. India enters the match with significant momentum, having secured a commanding 336-run victory at Edgbaston.
“To clinch the Test at Lord’s, India must focus on three key elements. Firstly, consistency. Although they triumphed in the last match and leveled the series, the competition is far from over. There are still three Tests remaining. The level of consistency demonstrated in both batting and bowling during the second Test must be reiterated,” Dasgupta remarked on JioHotstar.
With only a three-day break between the second and third Tests, Dasgupta highlighted the crucial need for physical recovery for India’s fast bowlers and captain Shubman Gill, who scored 269 and 161, respectively.
“The second element is proper rest, as the time between the two Test matches is limited. Recovery is vital, particularly for the fast bowlers and for captain Shubman Gill, who has endured two lengthy innings,” he stated.
Dasgupta also noted the unique challenge faced by India's relatively inexperienced squad in adjusting to the slope at Lord’s, which descends 2.5 meters from the Pavilion End to the Nursery End.
“The third critical factor at Lord’s is the slope. This team is relatively inexperienced, and many players will be competing at Lord's for the first time. Understanding and adapting to the slope will pose a significant challenge for both batters and bowlers. Let’s hope they can address all the difficulties and questions that arise,” he concluded.
