New Delhi, March 31 (NationPress) Corey Flintoff, the eldest son of former England captain Andrew Flintoff, has officially joined Kent by signing a two-year rookie contract. Following in the footsteps of his younger brother Rocky, who is also pursuing a career in county cricket, Corey is a talented fast-bowling all-rounder.
The 19-year-old has garnered attention by playing for Lancashire’s age group and Academy teams, as well as representing the North at the Bunbury cricket festival in 2021, and making appearances for Lancashire’s Second XI last year. However, his ascent was interrupted due to a stress fracture in his back.
With his previous contract at Lancashire coming to an end, Flintoff was observed training with Kent’s first-team this week, bowling four overs during the club’s recent two-day warm-up match against Essex at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence on Friday.
“I’m thrilled to be joining Kent and to further my development as a player alongside Adam Hollioake and the exceptional coaching staff here. The team has been incredibly welcoming, and there’s an amazing atmosphere,” said Corey.
“I’m looking forward to the future, and I believe that Kent is the right environment for me to transition into first-team cricket,” he added in a statement released by the club on Monday.
This agreement with Kent will allow Corey to balance his cricket commitments with his university studies for at least the next two seasons. “Corey is an incredibly promising young talent with the ability to score runs and take wickets,” stated Simon Cook, Kent’s Director of Cricket.
“He is a dedicated worker and is highly motivated to establish himself in professional cricket. We’re very pleased that he sees his future with us at Kent,” he added.
Andrew Flintoff made 227 appearances for England across all formats from 1998 to 2009 and is celebrated as one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of international cricket.
In recent years, he has taken on various coaching roles, including head coach of the England Lions, where Rocky, who recently signed with Lancashire, scored a century against a Cricket Australia XI in Brisbane back in January.
