Jeddah, April 19 (NationPress) Andy Cowell has refuted speculation connecting Max Verstappen with a possible transfer to Aston Martin, despite the ongoing gossip regarding the reigning World Champion's status with Red Bull.

Although the season has just begun with four races completed, Verstappen's rapport with Red Bull has sparked substantial discussion in the paddock of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. This follows comments from Red Bull's motorsport adviser, Helmut Marko, who expressed his serious concerns about Verstappen's future with the team.

Marko's statements triggered a wave of inquiries directed at Verstappen during the official press conference in Jeddah on Thursday, with Aston Martin being mentioned as a potential destination, even though the team has both Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll under contract until at least 2026.

During the team principals' press conference on Friday, Aston Martin's leader Cowell addressed questions about whether the Silverstone-based team would be interested in signing Verstappen.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have two exceptionally experienced drivers signed for the next two years, which allows me to concentrate on enhancing the business and mastering the art of building a fast race car,” stated Aston Martin's Team Principal and CEO.

When pressed further about whether this meant there is “no space for Max Verstappen in 2026”, Cowell added: “I’m focused on improving the company so we can produce a fast race car for Lance and Fernando.”

With former Red Bull designer Adrian Newey already transitioning from Milton Keynes to Silverstone, and Honda set to join Aston Martin next year following their tenure with Red Bull, there's an increasing perception that the team could provide Verstappen with a familiar setting.

Nevertheless, for any such transfer to happen soon, it would necessitate a significant reshuffling of Aston Martin's current driver lineup.

Fernando Alonso, on his part, dismissed any worries about potentially losing his seat, deeming the prospects of partnering with Verstappen as “very unlikely.” Still, he recognized that the rumors reflect well on the advancements Aston Martin has achieved in recent seasons.

“This demonstrates the project we are involved in, and the future this team holds. As I have always said, even last year when I extended my contract, I will race for as long as I feel competitive and the team requires me behind the wheel,” Alonso remarked.

“However, my contract exceeds my racing career, so I intend to remain with this team for many years in a different capacity. And if that means I can secure a World Championship even while not driving, I will still take immense pride in the project.”
