Legal Issues for David Warner: Charged with Drink Driving in Sydney
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Sydney, April 7 (NationPress) The former Australian cricketer David Warner has found himself in legal issues after being charged with drink driving on Sunday. This incident took place in the Maroubra area during a routine roadside breath-testing operation.
As reported by news.com.au, the 39-year-old had pulled over and parked his vehicle just prior to reaching the testing checkpoint. However, police officers approached his vehicle and administered a breath test, revealing that he was above the legal alcohol limit.
Warner was promptly taken into custody and brought to the Maroubra Police Station, where his blood alcohol content was recorded at 0.104. He has been charged and is set to appear in court next month.
“At approximately 5:30 PM today (Sunday, April 5, 2026), police were conducting stationary random breath testing on Malabar Road, Maroubra. A van allegedly stopped short of the testing site and parked. Officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command approached the vehicle and subjected the driver – a 39-year-old man – to roadside testing, which returned a positive result. He was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station, where a second test allegedly showed a reading of 0.104,” the police statement detailed.
“The man was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice for driving with a middle-range PCA and is scheduled to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday, May 7, 2026,” it further added.
This incident arises as Warner continues his active participation in franchise cricket, despite retiring from international cricket in 2024. Currently, he is leading the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 and had recently returned to Australia during a break between matches.
Regarded as one of Australia’s most explosive opening batsmen, Warner has maintained his influence in domestic T20 leagues, including the Big Bash League (BBL). He recently had a stellar season with the Sydney Thunder, concluding as the tournament's leading run-scorer.
Warner accumulated an impressive 433 runs in just eight matches, significantly surpassing his teammates.
Meanwhile, his PSL team, Karachi Kings, currently ranks second in the points table with three consecutive wins. The team is set to face off against Peshawar Zalmi on Thursday, April 9, at the National Stadium in Karachi.
