WPL 2027 auction: Delhi Capitals add Navgire, youngest-ever pick Kashvi
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Delhi Capitals bolstered their roster for the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2027 season by securing four players at the player auction held in Kochi on 28 October 2026, with head coach Jonathan Batty declaring the franchise has strengthened an already formidable side. The franchise entered the auction with a core of 13 retained players and exited with a full 17-member squad, spending ₹1.05 crore on the day.
Key Acquisitions at the WPL 2027 Auction
Delhi Capitals' headline buy was explosive Indian batter Kiran Navgire, snapped up for ₹75 lakh — the franchise's marquee acquisition of the day. Alongside her, the side secured Uma Kashvi, Nazma Khan, and Scotland spinner Kirstie Gordon, each at ₹10 lakh.
The most striking signing was Uma Kashvi, the 15-year-old Karnataka right-arm spin-bowling all-rounder who became the youngest player ever sold in WPL auction history. Kashvi has already represented India Under-19 in a series against Sri Lanka Under-19, giving her a taste of the international junior circuit before her mid-teens.
What Batty Said About the Auction Strategy
Batty was effusive about Navgire's impact on the batting order. 'Kiran was a high-value target for us. She's probably the most dynamic and powerful batter in the auction. With Shafali at the top of the order and power further down the lineup with players like Chinelle Henry, Kiran gives us another dimension to consider in our batting order. It has the potential to make our batting lineup absolutely staggering,' he said.
On the teenage all-rounder, Batty emphasised a long-term development vision. 'She's been on our radar for a little while. Our scouts have watched her play extensively and shared some incredible feedback... We believe she could become an absolute superstar in the future. At 15, she is very much a work in progress, and we're not expecting her to be the finished article just yet. This is a long-term project for Delhi Capitals,' he added.
Batty also highlighted the depth the new additions bring. 'Going into the auction, we already had a really strong group of 13 players. Our starting lineup was very strong even before the auction, and I think we have strengthened it further... It is going to give me some selection headaches as a coach, which is a really good thing,' he said.
The Retained Core That Anchors the Squad
Delhi Capitals' retentions read like a who's who of women's cricket. Captain Jemimah Rodrigues and explosive opener Shafali Verma were each retained at ₹2.20 crore, joined at the same price by powerhouse overseas all-rounders Marizanne Kapp and Annabel Sutherland. South African batter Laura Wolvaardt was retained at ₹1.10 crore, while Chinelle Henry and N. Shree Charani came in at ₹1.30 crore each. The retained group also features Niki Prasad, Minnu Mani, Nandani Sharma, Deeya Yadav, Mamatha Madiwala, and Lucy Hamilton.
