Bengaluru, Feb 26 (NationPress) Following a spectacular resurgence in the WPL 2025, the Delhi Capitals triumphed over the Gujarat Giants by six wickets, propelling themselves to the pinnacle of the points table. All-rounder Jess Jonassen remarked that the team met all expectations and executed their strategy effectively from the outset of the match.

The Capitals took charge early, capitalizing on the favorable conditions. The seasoned opening pair of Marizanne Kapp (2-17) and Shikha Pandey (2-18) dismantled GG’s top order, limiting them to a modest total of 127/9. Subsequently, Jonassen (61 not out off 32) and Shafali Verma (44 off 27) orchestrated a precise chase, with Jonassen's composed first WPL fifty earning her the Player of the Match accolade.

Reflecting on the success, Jonassen stated, "The team met all the expectations and executed the strategies effectively from the very start. We secured four wickets during the powerplay, thanks to Marizanne and Shikha, which set the tone for us. Additionally, our fielding was commendable, and we took some spectacular catches."

Jonassen was elevated to the number three position in the batting lineup. The aggressive batter explained the rationale behind this decision, which played a crucial role in DC's assured run chase.

"I had a discussion with our coach Jonathan Batty earlier today, and he mentioned that the management was considering promoting me up the order if an early wicket fell to inject some energy and intent during the powerplay. I’m pleased that I could contribute to the team’s victory," she expressed.

When queried about the challenge of playing consecutive matches in a short span, Jonassen remarked, “It can have both advantages and disadvantages.”

“Fortunately for us, we possess ample experience within our squad, so one poor performance cannot derail our momentum. With a quick turnaround, there’s insufficient time to linger on mistakes or aspects that didn’t go as planned. You simply need to keep looking ahead,” she emphasized.

With this victory, the Delhi Capitals advanced to the top of the table, holding six points and three wins from five matches. They will face the Mumbai Indians in their sixth match on Friday at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
