Did Delhi Capitals Choose to Bowl Against Mumbai Indians in WPL 2026?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Navi Mumbai, Jan 10 (NationPress) Jemimah Rodrigues kicked off her tenure as the Delhi Capitals (DC) captain by winning the toss and opting to bowl first against the reigning champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) match at the DY Patil Stadium on Saturday.
After calling it right at the toss, Jemimah, who is the youngest skipper in WPL history, announced that Laura Wolvaardt, Chinelle Henry, Marizanne Kapp, and Lizelle Lee are the selected overseas players, while pacer Nandini Sharma is making her debut.
“Absolutely, DY Patil holds a special place in my heart. I made my Test debut here, clinched my first World Cup here, and now I’m captaining Delhi for the first time on this ground - it means a lot to me. I truly enjoy leading. I have been captaining my state team since I was 16, and those experiences are invaluable,” she remarked.
“With responsibility comes the best in me, and my team alleviates a lot of pressure. I know they’ll support me regardless, which adds to the enjoyment. There’s a refreshing energy in this group that I’m thrilled about. Both overseas and domestic players have diligently prepared, and I’m eager to see them perform,” she added.
MI is looking to recover after a three-wicket loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their opening match on Friday. Triveni is making her debut, stepping in for Saika. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur stated that left-arm spinner Triveni Vasistha is making her WPL debut, replacing Saika Ishaque.
“Had we won the toss, our plan would have been to chase. We had limited time to recover, but it’s crucial to learn from past games and enhance our performance. We are professionals, and starting fresh is vital. The pitch looks different today and appears favorable for batting,” she noted.
