Ningbo (China) April 10 (NationPress) The Indian mixed doubles team of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto advanced to the quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Championships 2025 after a remarkable comeback victory against the pair from Chinese Taipei, Ye Hong Wei and Nicole Chan, on Thursday.

The Indian duo overcame a tough start, losing the first game 12-21, but rallied to win the second game 21-16 and clinched the decisive game 21-18 at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium.

Next, they will compete against the fifth-seeded pair of Jordan Tang and Tse Ying Suet from Hong Kong for a spot in the semifinals.

In contrast, India's efforts in the singles category concluded after PV Sindhu, Priyanshu Rajawat, and Kiran George were eliminated in their respective second-round matches.

Sindhu put up a fierce fight but ultimately succumbed to Akane Yamaguchi with scores of 11-21, 21-16, and 16-21 after a commendable comeback in the second game against the former world champion from Japan.

In men's singles, Kiran faced off against world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn but lost 21-19, 13-21, 16-21, while Priyanshu was defeated 14-21, 17-21 by Kodai Naraoka.

In men’s doubles, Hariharan Amsakarunan and Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi, who progressed to the second round after defeating Sri Lanka’s Madhuka Dulanjana and Lahiru Weerasinghe, are set to meet the Malaysian duo of Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, who are bronze medallists from the Paris Olympics.

Earlier in the tournament, Paris 2024 semifinalist Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy, and Malvika Bansod had been eliminated in the first round.

Sen suffered a straight-game defeat against world No. 14 Lee Chia-hao from Chinese Taipei. Prannoy fought valiantly but could not avoid a 21-16, 12-21, 21-11 loss to Lu Guangzu of China, marking his fourth first-round exit in six tournaments this year.
