Lucknow, April 2 (NationPress) Digvesh Rathi, the spinner for Lucknow Super Giants, has received a reprimand for delivering an intense send-off to Punjab Kings' opener Priyansh Arya during their IPL 2025 match on Tuesday at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.
The BCCI enforced disciplinary measures against the LSG bowler for violating the IPL Code of Conduct. Digvesh faced a fine of 25 percent of his match fees and was awarded one demerit point for his animated celebration after taking the wicket of the PBKS opener.
According to an official statement, "Lucknow Super Giants bowler Digvesh Rathi has been fined 25 percent of his match fees and has also received One Demerit Point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Punjab Kings at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Tuesday."
The incident transpired during the third over of the PBKS innings when Priyansh misplayed a shot off Digvesh's delivery, sending the ball high into the air. Shardul Thakur moved in from mid-on and took a straightforward catch, marking LSG's first breakthrough.
Following the dismissal, Rathi immediately approached the batter and gestured as if noting the wicket in his notebook. The on-field umpire promptly summoned him for a brief discussion.
"Digvesh acknowledged the Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 and accepted the Match Referee’s punishment. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s ruling is final and binding," the statement continued.
In terms of the match, a solid bowling performance limited LSG to 171/7 at home, while PBKS successfully chased the target with ease. Player of the Match Prabhsimran Singh scored 69 off 34, with skipper Shreyas Iyer contributing 52 not out off 30, and Nehal Wadhera adding 43 not out off 25, leading the visitors to a comfortable win with 22 balls to spare.
