Porthcawl (Wales), Aug 2 (NationPress) Diksha Dagar secured a Tied-28th position after posting a score of 1-over 73 in the second round, successfully making the cut for the weekend rounds at the AIG Women’s Open, which is the last Major event of the year for women.
Diksha (71-73) stands at even par for 36 holes, holding a Tied-28th position as she heads into the final two rounds. This year, she is the sole Indian participant in the competition.
The leaderboard is led by Miyu Yamashita from Japan, a 23-year-old who played a bogey-free second round with scores of 68-65, reaching 11-under-par after 36 holes. Another Japanese golfer, Rio Takeda, follows in second place with a score of 8-under (67-69). Four players are tied for third place, significantly trailing at 4-under.
At Royal Porthcawl, the cut was made at two-over par, with 71 players progressing to the weekend rounds.
The weather fluctuated considerably, but Diksha managed to maintain her composure at the challenging Royal Porthcawl Golf Club. She started with two pars but lost strokes on the third and sixth holes. However, she rebounded with an eagle on the Par-5 ninth, finishing the front nine at even par.
On the back nine, she bogeyed the tenth but recovered with birdies on the 12th and 13th holes. Despite the challenging scoring conditions, she was in contention for a Top-10 finish but unfortunately bogeyed the 14th and 16th holes, managing to avoid further setbacks.
A strong finish here could position Diksha favorably for the busy second half of the season, which includes her home event, the Hero Women’s Indian Open. She has come close to winning this event in the past and aims to add to her two victories on the LET.
Diksha will compete in the third round alongside Australian Stephanie Kyriacou, who recorded a hole-in-one and an eagle during her second round of 70, which also featured a stretch of four consecutive bogeys.
Despite encountering bogeys at the 6th and 10th holes, Rio Takeda remains in second place. Four players are tied for third at four-under after 36 holes, including Chiara Tamburlini from Switzerland, Laura Fuenfstueck from Germany, Pajaree Anannarukarn from Thailand, and Lindy Duncan from America.
In the seventh place, three players are tied: South Korea’s A Lim Kim and Sei Young Kim, as well as Sweden’s Madelene Sagstrom, all finishing the second round at three-under par.
