Miami, March 26 (NationPress) Six-time champion Novak Djokovic has advanced to the quarter-finals of the ATP Miami Open with a dominant scoreline of 6-2, 6-2 against 15th seed Lorenzo Musetti on Wednesday (IST).

The 37-year-old now stands three wins away from achieving his 100th tour-level title and will face American Sebastian Korda next.

This marks Djokovic's first appearance in Miami since 2019, having not reached the quarter-finals since clinching the title at Crandon Park in 2016, as reported by ATP.

After an early setback with a break against him and a time violation warning, Djokovic rebounded spectacularly. The fourth seed won nine consecutive games, turning a deficit into a dominant display, eventually securing his spot in the last eight in just one hour and 23 minutes.

Djokovic delivered an impressive performance in front of tennis legends Serena Williams and Juan Martin del Potro, who was in his box.

"I was starstruck! It was incredible to see DelPo, a long-time friend and rival. It meant a lot to have his support in the box. And Serena was a surprise; I didn't see that coming," Djokovic expressed during his on-court interview.

"When I hit that down-the-line passing shot, I pointed to her for approval. She nodded 'yes', and if Serena thinks it's good, then it must be amazing by everyone else's standards. So, I’m grateful to have them both here," he added.

Earlier that day, Korda managed to edge past Gael Monfils with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Matteo Berrettini eliminated the 10th seed Alex de Minaur with a score of 6-3, 7-6(7).

Taylor Fritz will be the next opponent for Berrettini, after the third-seeded American defeated lucky loser Adam Walton 6-3, 7-5. With this victory at the Grandstand, Fritz matched his best result in Miami, reaching the quarter-finals in 2023.
