Liverpool, July 9 (NationPress) English club Everton has officially announced the acquisition of Thierno Barry from the Spanish club Villarreal. The France Under-21 international striker has inked a four-year contract with the Blues, ensuring his stay at the club until the conclusion of June 2029.
Standing tall at 6ft 5in, Barry transitioned to Villarreal last summer from Swiss outfit FC Basel. He made a swift impact in La Liga, netting 11 goals which included a memorable hat-trick against Leganes in December, contributing to the Yellow Submarine's impressive fifth-place finish and Champions League qualification.
"I am thrilled to be here. The excitement is palpable, and I am eager to get started as soon as possible," Barry expressed.
"Everton is a significant name in the Premier League, with a rich history and illustrious players like Wayne Rooney and Romelu Lukaku having donned the jersey. As a child, I admired these players, and now I aspire to follow in their footsteps," Barry told Evertontv.
Born in Lyon and of Guinean heritage, Barry progressed through the youth ranks at SC Toulon and FC Sochaux-Montbéliard before joining the Belgian side Beveren in 2022. He finished his debut season with an impressive tally of 20 goals in Belgium’s second division, which led to his move to the Swiss Super League with FC Basel in July 2023.
Barry added another 12 goals in the 2023/24 season, paving the way for his transfer to Villarreal the following summer. Now, he aims to leave a mark at Everton, in front of what he knows to be a large and passionate fanbase at the club’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Regarding the signing, manager David Moyes commented, "We are thrilled to welcome Thierno to the club. We see immense potential in him and are optimistic about what he will bring to our team.
"We will provide him ample time to adjust, and we are excited to begin working with him shortly. I also hope to make further acquisitions in the upcoming weeks."
