FA Cup: Newcastle United Overcome Bromley with a 3-1 Victory

Newcastle, Jan 12 (NationPress) Newcastle United clinched a 3-1 victory over Bromley to progress to the FA Cup fourth round, having to rally from behind against the National League side. The Magpies, who are now on an eight-match winning streak, encountered a significant challenge from a well-coached Bromley team, under the guidance of former Newcastle goalkeeper coach Andy Woodman.
Bromley took an early advantage in the eighth minute, with Cameron Congreve, on loan from Swansea, delivering a spectacular 22-yard strike that found the net past Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka. Despite their promising start, Bromley squandered a chance to increase their lead when Danny Imray's shot went wide after a threatening run into the area.
Newcastle quickly responded, leveling the score in the 10th minute. Lewis Miley, making his first start in almost a year, executed a pinpoint through ball to William Osula. Osula rounded the goalkeeper, and though Bromley attempted to clear, the ball eventually fell to Miley, who struck a magnificent shot into the top corner, marking his return in style.
Eddie Howe made nine alterations to his starting eleven but retained several key international players in the lineup. Despite controlling possession, Newcastle struggled to penetrate Bromley's defense during the first half, with Harvey Barnes and Osula missing opportunities.
In the second half, Howe's substitutions proved pivotal. Anthony Gordon came on for Barnes and netted just two minutes after the restart, converting a penalty after Matt Targett was fouled in the box. Osula then secured the win in the 62nd minute with an impressive individual effort, cutting inside and shooting home for his first goal for the club.
Newcastle maintained control for the remainder of the match, with Targett and Bruno Guimares also coming close to scoring.
