Dallas (USA), March 5 (NationPress) FIFA President Gianni Infantino has revealed that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will feature its inaugural halftime show at Metlife Stadium during the final match. This groundbreaking decision to introduce the halftime show, along with unique events at Times Square during the final weekend, was shared at the FIFA Commercial & Media Partners Convention held in Dallas on Wednesday.
“I was delighted to engage with friends and colleagues at the FIFA World Cup 26: FIFA Commercial & Media Partners Convention in Dallas, where we outlined thrilling plans for the largest FIFA World Cup in history in 2026.
“I can confirm the inaugural halftime show at a FIFA World Cup final in New York, New Jersey, in collaboration with Global Citizen. This will mark a momentous occasion for the FIFA World Cup, delivering a spectacle worthy of the globe's premier sporting event. We also discussed FIFA's takeover of Times Square for the final weekend of the FIFA World Cup in 2026, coinciding with both the bronze match and the final,” Infantino shared on Instagram.
With the tournament set to occur across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the football governing body aims to emulate the National Football League (NFL) by offering a show akin to the Super Bowl halftime extravaganza, which is renowned as a highlight of the final match. Notably, American rapper Kendrick Lamar performed at Super Bowl LIX on February 10.
Infantino further disclosed that FIFA will consult with Chris Martin and Phil Harvey, members of the famous English band Coldplay, to curate the halftime show and events at Times Square.
“These will be two remarkable matches, showcasing some of the world's finest players, and what better way to celebrate them than in the iconic Times Square in New York City?
“I extend my gratitude to Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans and his outstanding team for their support in orchestrating these extraordinary shows. I also want to thank Chris Martin and Phil Harvey of Coldplay, who will collaborate with us at FIFA to finalize the lineup of artists for the halftime show, as well as for Times Square,” he concluded.
