Geneva, Jan 24 (NationPress) The inaugural FIFA Women's Champions Cup will see a historic prize money distribution for its participants, the governing body of world football revealed on Saturday.
The champion of the Women's Champions Cup will be awarded 2.3 million U.S. dollars, while the second-place team will receive one million U.S. dollars, according to FIFA.
Clubs from each confederation will vie for this prestigious intercontinental club title. The semifinals are set to take place at Brentford Stadium (Gtech Community Stadium) in London, Britain, on January 28. The final match will occur at Arsenal Stadium (Emirates Stadium) on February 1.
Each losing semifinalist will earn USD 200,000, while Auckland United FC (New Zealand) and Wuhan Chegu Jiangda WFC (China), which were eliminated in earlier rounds, will each receive USD 100,000.
The first semifinal will feature Gotham FC from the United States, the CONCACAF champion, going against SC Corinthians of Brazil, the CONMEBOL champion. Meanwhile, European champion Arsenal of England will compete against ASFAR of Morocco, the CAF champion.
In addition to the substantial rewards for the finalists, the two teams eliminated in the first and second rounds, namely Auckland United and Wuhan Jiangda, will each receive 100,000 dollars.
FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström emphasized that this prize structure reflects the organization's confidence in the rapid development of women’s club soccer, as well as its commitment to long-term investments aimed at enhancing competitions globally.
“A total payout nearing USD 4 million distributed among the six teams based on their performance signifies a strong belief in women's club football and the players, teams, and competitions propelling its ongoing growth,” stated FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom.
