New Delhi, April 16 (NationPress) Former cricketer Aaron Finch has compiled his ultimate list of the top five Australian cricketers to have ever participated in the Indian Premier League (IPL), showcasing the significant influence of international players throughout the league's 19-year journey.

At number 5, Finch recognizes ex-Chennai Super Kings ace Mike Hussey, commending his reliability and knack for stabilizing the innings.

"A two-time champion, who can forget the incredible 733 runs he achieved in a single season? He was exceptional at guiding Chennai to victory," Finch stated in an interview with ESPNCricinfo.

Following him at No. 4, Finch honors former fast bowler Mitchell Johnson, emphasizing his effectiveness with the new ball. "He had a tremendous influence, especially with the fresh ball. Another two-time champion with the Mumbai Indians, he managed to keep his economy rate below eight and a half runs per over. Let’s not forget his unforgettable performance of defending 10 runs in the final over to secure another title," Finch remarked.

The former RCB star Josh Hazlewood is ranked third, praised for his adaptability to the evolving demands of T20 cricket.

"He has been outstanding with the ball throughout the years in this league. A two-time champion with different franchises, proving he is no one-hit wonder. His economy rate is astonishing, below eight and a half runs per over in the modern game, and he averages over a wicket and a half per game. Those are remarkable statistics," he noted.

In the second spot, Finch selected IPL-winning captain David Warner. Warner stands out as one of the tournament's leading batsmen, having led the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to victory in IPL 2016.

"With 66 scores of 50 or more in this competition, his consistency is truly remarkable. As a captain who secured the title with SRH, he has proven successful no matter where he plays. He was unfortunate not to claim the top spot, but he has been an exceptional player over the years," Finch added.

Claiming the top position is all-rounder Shane Watson, whom Finch heralds as the best Australian player in IPL history. "He has had an extensive career, starting with Rajasthan and winning a title, and concluding with CSK, also as a champion. His remarkable consistency over the years is unparalleled. With two titles, two MVP awards, and being named Player of the Match in the final, he has excelled both with bat and ball. He has truly been a significant figure in IPL cricket," Finch stated.

Watson’s illustrious IPL journey spanned from 2008 to 2020, during which he played 145 matches, racking up 3,874 runs, including four centuries and 21 fifties. As a top all-rounder, he took 92 wickets and earned the Player of the Tournament honor twice (2008, 2013), clinching two IPL titles with the Rajasthan Royals (2008) and Chennai Super Kings (2018).
