New Delhi, March 27 (NationPress) Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson believes that taking on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk poses a significant challenge for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

The team led by Rajat Patidar will go up against the five-time champions on Friday at MA Chidambaram Stadium in their second match of the IPL 2025 season. RCB had an impressive beginning, securing a convincing seven-wicket victory against the reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the season opener at Eden Gardens.

Conversely, CSK triumphed over Mumbai Indians by four wickets in their first match of the season. For Chennai, the spin trio of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Noor Ahmad played a vital role in limiting MI to 155, with the latter achieving a four-wicket haul on a spin-friendly Chepauk pitch.

Watson stated, "It’s going to be a huge challenge for RCB to play at Chepauk, particularly considering the caliber of bowlers CSK possesses. Just observe the three spinners who excelled in their opening game against MI—Ashwin, Jadeja, and Noor Ahmad. They are sure to be a formidable presence on that pitch. Noor Ahmad's impactful debut for CSK will only enhance the team's confidence, knowing they have another wicket-taking option."

The former CSK player believes that RCB will need to adjust their lineup to combat CSK's spin-heavy strategy at their home ground.

Watson commented, "RCB will likely have to modify their team structure to tackle CSK’s strengths. However, make no mistake—Chepauk is a stronghold. CSK’s entire framework is designed to excel in Chennai, and it will be quite challenging for RCB to overcome that. Someone from their squad will need to deliver something exceptionally special to achieve a victory."

RCB features Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma as their primary spinners, with Liam Livingstone also contributing with his part-time spin. Nevertheless, they lack a standout spinner with international experience, which could be a crucial difference against a spin-dominant team like CSK.
