Rio de Janeiro, Dec 27 (NationPress) Former midfielder Robinho Signorini, who played for clubs like Palmeiras, Cruzeiro, and Santos, has officially announced his retirement after a remarkable professional journey that lasted two decades.
At the age of 38, his contract with Brazilian Serie C club Brusque has come to a close this month, and he has chosen to turn down further playing opportunities to accept a position as an assistant coach with Nautico, set to compete in Serie B next year. "I am putting a full stop to my journey as a professional athlete. However, I will continue in the world of football, now from outside the four lines," he shared in a social media post.
Robinho's illustrious career includes winning a Brazilian Serie A title and a Copa do Brasil trophy with Palmeiras, along with two Copa do Brasil victories while with Cruzeiro. His career also featured stints at Varginha, Mogi Mirim, Avai, Coritiba, and Paysandu, as reported by Xinhua.
"I thank all the clubs, teammates, coaches, fans, support staff, directors, and agents who were part of my story as a player. Without you, I would not have achieved my collective and individual goals," Robinho expressed.
In other news, Atletico Mineiro is looking to re-sign former player Fred.
Meanwhile, changes are afoot among Brazil's top clubs. Botafogo captain Marlon Freitas might be on the move to rival Palmeiras, as local reports suggest. Early negotiations indicate Palmeiras is willing to invest $6 million for the 30-year-old holding midfielder, according to Gazeta Esportiva. It was noted that Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira aims to bolster his midfield following Anibal Moreno's transfer to River Plate.
Since joining from Atletico Goianiense in 2023, Freitas has made 186 appearances for Botafogo across all competitions and led the team to win both the Copa Libertadores and Brazilian Serie A titles last year. Palmeiras concluded this season’s Brazilian Serie A in second place behind Flamengo and were runners-up in the Copa Libertadores to the same opponent.
Additionally, Atletico Mineiro has put forth an offer to acquire Fred, a Brazilian international currently with Fenerbahce. Although he is under contract with the Turkish club until June 2027, he is reportedly considering a return to Brazil, as stated by Globo Esporte.
It has been reported that Atletico's sporting director Paulo Bracks has reached out to Fred’s representatives to go over financial matters.
Fred has played 104 matches for Fenerbahce, scoring nine goals and providing 18 assists since his transfer from Manchester United in August 2023. Originally from Belo Horizonte, he represented Atletico Mineiro's youth teams until he turned 16.
